There is no limitation to an Individual

gopal-kkhanal How do you ensure the ‘Quality of Education’ in your Institution? An assurance from any institution is to provide quality education but the end result showcases the quality. The quantity doesn’t signify the quality. Education is vital for an overall improvement of an individual; a nation with higher literacy rate adamantly strives toward betterment of the community. The private sector has been involved into education sector for quite some time now and this has certainly been helpful in generating qualified population. It’s saddening to see that merely about 25% of the total annual budget is allocated for educational sectors in Nepal. The government should be more focused towards producing skillful manpower. Instead of providing quotas and reserved seats, the government should emphasis in providing quality education and be a helping hand for its citizens. Technology should be installed in all level to cope with the global urbanization. You have embarked upon various ventures, how have you been able to cope with all the undertakings?(Gopal Khanal is involved in Financial and Educational Institute, Industry, Member of various esteemed organisations and a successful Business Person) “Do what you love and everything is possible”. I always believed in giving back to the society and that has helped me evolve into what I’m today. It’s never about just business but about service for the general crowd. “The undertakings have made me realize that there is no limitation to an individual, however at times I wish there could have been more than 24 hours in a day so that I could stay more productive”. There is a trend in the society where we see students opting foreign nations to pursue their tertiary education. How has that affected the Colleges/Universities in Nepal? What can be done to retain the millennial from leaving the nation?
“There is no harm in gaining international exposure”.
An individual always aims to gain the best of everything and it is no exception when we see youngsters traveling abroad for studies. The nation will gain better skilled individual who has seen how the international market operates. The government should be able to facilitate better job opportunities for youngsters who plan to come back to Nepal after the completion of their studies to retain them. We see foreign nationals coming into Nepal to pursue their tertiary education in Medical, Engineering, Natural Research and many more fields to name few; this showcases that the education quality of Nepal is good. There should be a proper road map ahead for the development of education system of Nepal so that we can keep our fleeing youngsters in Nepal and help the nation prosper. Being  a versatile entrepreneur the journey obviously was not smooth for you, what were the initial hurdles you faced? Hurdles are to overcome and that’s how we achieve our goals, no goals are achieved with ease.
“I come from a family where entering a business was never a thing but if you have the willpower and vision then anything is possible. We don’t have to run after success, we have to make ourselves worthy and success will follow”.
The effort always pays off. I always worked in a team because working in a team always motivated me to push myself further and stay optimistic. A positive nature enhances the individual’s confidence in gaining what they aim to achieve.   What are your views on the entrepreneurial situation in Nepal? “It’s always a positive aspect to see entrepreneurs penetrating the Nepalese market. A visionary will always be able to incorporate all sorts of obstacles to achieve what he/she aims to obtain”. The potentiality of any individual can only be measured by the work progression one showcases, however due to inevitable circumstances we see the lack of commitment and positive thinking among Nepalese entrepreneurs, and in this context we can see the unfavorable government rules and regulations. The rules and regulations formulated should be amended in accordance to the need and necessity of the society. One should always aim higher and be patient. Lastly,
“Where do I see myself in the coming years should always be prioritized”.

Women entrepreneurs in Nepal have been showcasing their true potential by launching various prolific and unique ventures. Empowerment of women has always been talked about but seeing the current situation, the competitiveness proven by women of Nepal accentuates the fact that each individual has their own potential and no one should be looked down upon. Quotas and subsidies are provided for women in various fields and is a welcoming gesture. Education should be prioritized rather than just endorsing quotas and subsidies so that every woman of these nation gains that exposure and quality to compete in any given situation. “A successful entrepreneur needs to have a vision, understand the needs and demands of the market and lastly; the execution should be top notch. Entering a business is all about taking risks and accumulating vast knowledge and experience with failures and success that comes along”.

SHOWCASING PROFESSIONALISM

yash-new To what do you most attribute your success? Success is vital to stay optimistic whilst pursuing any business venture, however learning through the process is more important. “The right direction and honesty leads to success”. A thorough market research is required and that’s how we get to know the needs and demands of the general crowd and we can further enhance our business scope. How do you see the substantial growth of Entrepreneurship and start-ups in Nepal in recent years? “The more the merrier”, is what I believe in regards to new business ventures. The number of new establishments showcases how the millennial aim to prosper in their own terms and stay independent. However, its saddening to see how we have not been able to cope with our human capital, the trend of going abroad for tertiary education has led to fleeing of talented youths. The lack of proper market and working environment has compelled our people to leave the nation to work abroad. Nevertheless, it’s highly appreciable to see increasing number of entrepreneurs in a Developing Nation like Nepal. The new establishments yet tend to shut down in numerous cases due to lack in proper monitoring and thorough research in context to Nepalese market. “Birgunj has the highest number of industries established but its heart wrenching to find out that the economic hub of the nation lacks industrial labor or skilled personnel”. In an agriculture oriented nation we don’t see proper machinery to stay more productive in the fields; even if machines are purchased we need foreign assistance to operate such machines. If the government and other authority vested organizations take proper action and implant guidance accordingly then we can definitely see more startups and a better positioned Nepal globally in context to economic well-being. Yash Group of Companies (Nepal) comprises of ventures ranging from Chemical, Logistics, Food Industry, Petrochemical & Minerals to Real Estate; such diversified work scope! Yash Group of Companies has been in the market for quite some time now and it gives me immense happiness to state that we have a wide range of services and products for the Nepalese market. We not only deal with chemicals but at the same time, we have indulged ourselves into food products, finance, real estate and logistics to name a few. We take pride in the quality of our services provided and fully understand what it takes to be the leader in providing top-notch products and services. We always believed in expanding beyond horizon to further our services and following this motto we pushed ourselves to establish various new projects. The company has been able to play a vital role in supporting the domestic market of Nepal, we strive further to be a one stop solution for our valued clients. To carter the needs and demands of people have always been prioritized by Yash Group of Companies. What was your company’s initial mission? How has that evolved in the time since? The company’s mission has always been about showcasing professionalism and generating revenue while trailing a systematic approach towards business. The mission of our company stays stagnant when in regards of providing the right services and products for our esteemed clients. We have been able to retain our clients trust on us by providing the right solutions at the right time with affordability. Yes, I do agree that with time there have been some changes into our mission but the vision stays the same. It’s hard to stick with futuristic mission described in papers but that doesn’t mean we should deviate from the course of staying; reliable and efficient for our clients. img_7541 Mr. Ashok Kumar Agrawal (Temani) Director of Yash Group of Companies Executive Board member of FNCCI (Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce & Industries) The trade deficit between Nepal and India has risen tremendously, how do you think this trade deficit can be minimized? “First of all, it is crucial to understand what trade deficit is? In layman’s term, it’s the amount by which the country’s value of exported products is less that the cost of a country’s imported products”. India is our biggest trading nation and every year we see tons of Indian products entering the Nepalese market and being a landlocked nation, India is the gateway for shipping in foreign goods to Nepal. We directly and indirectly exceed over 70% of our total trading history a year with India and more than billions of money reaches Indian market whilst importing goods. However, the exporting of goods of Nepal to India is not up to the par with the Indian exports. The situation can be solved to some extent when Nepalese government can bring in more FDI’S and establish more industries. In Nepal we lack industrial labor and this hinders the growth of an industry. The Nepalese Govt. is still incapable of making crucial hydropower sanctions for making itself capable of exporting our vital economic growth oriented electric-hydro solutions. Establishing an industry itself doesn’t necessarily turns over the trade deficit, it will take years to do so but rather developing electricity in joint ventures will help us lessen the trade deficit. What do you think will attract FDI’S in Nepal? Nepal has yet to be one of the nation where FDI’s literally flood in, and coherently it’s linked with the lack in proper infrastructure, unsuitable political scenario, non-business oriented rules and regulations to name a few. Each and every year there are numerous Meetings and Summits in national level that sees through to bring in more FDI’s, however the lack of proper homework and unstable Govt. and it’s policies makes the foreign investor hesitate to bring in their investment. “Instead of FDI, at the moment I would suggest Joint Ventures as the best solution to boost our economy. Joint Venturing leads to gaining proper coordination amongst nations and companies, and this will help Nepal slowly pace towards a developed nation status”. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) can help a nation in various aspects in regards to economic reform. Bringing in foreign investors will bring skilled manpower, new technologies and good working environment. The establishment of such investing companies will help in gaining huge revenue for the nation, hence helping the GDP. How do you believe evolving technology will change the way business’s done in the coming years? Technology has absolutely helped in reforming business scenario in Nepal and globally. There has been a huge rise in accordance to e-commerce in Nepal, people are keen in knowing more and staying accustomed to the new technology waves that barge in every now and then. “Technology has been used by Nepalese too; but I don’t see it’s been utilized to its full potential yet”. All of these are due to the lack of proper education; we don’t see proper technology being implemented into our agriculture, infrastructure development, education, health, aviation, etc. Hopefully, soon enough we’ll get to see global technology being executed into Nepalese market and not being restrained just on high speed internet.

ICT and E commerce

binod-new ‘CAN InfoTech’ can be dated back to the year 1995, and there were 22 stalls however now we get to see around 87 stalls. Most of the events these days are business oriented, however we take great pride in being able to organize an event that solely aims to provide one stop center for technology related solutions and information. Since the initial days, our objective has remained the same, we have visualized ourselves as an organization that’s been established to promote ICT (Information, Communication and Technology), here in Nepal. These events are organized for better understanding of technologies and not business”. The Nepalese communities have been able to gain tremendous information and knowledge regarding evolving technology globally. Technology is ever evolving and the regular updates we see globally has been somewhat incorporated into the Nepalese society as well, however the usage is ever growing but the utilization of such technologies lacks in our nation. The policy makers of our nation should prioritize ICT so that we gain recognition in the international arena.
“I and the team at CAN (Computer Association of Nepal) always aim of prioritizing ‘digitization’ in the government level and among our population. That is only possible with implementation of policies in accordance to ICT. “ICT is a knowledge based industry and it should be managed and monitored properly to boost our nation’s economy”.
‘Development’ is inevitable in any sector and technology is no exception. We see constant growth and upgrade in the technology sector. We see ICT being incorporated in most of the sectors; namely Agriculture, Tourism, Finance, Trading, etc. There was a revision in the ICT policy in the year 2015 whereas the year 2000 saw the first IT policy. The government has made policies but we see lack of implementation which hinders the expected overall growth of ICT in Nepal. can The lack of knowledge in regards to online business halts the growth of e-commerce in Nepal. There is no payment gateway way in Nepal and this doesn’t allow international and domestic e-commerce business houses to function properly. The nation is ready to access payment gateway but the lack of optimistic approach towards it has lowered the potentiality. For instance, a Nepalese residing here should be able to make payment for a hotel in Singapore using his banking cards , but due to the lack of online gateway, the individual is limited to just making a booking via telephonic conversation or opting for hotels that do not require payment for a booking and vice versa to tourist visiting Nepal as well.
“This situation can be amended when the government and authorities involved in the foresee of the necessity and make the required rules and regulations to operate a proper gateway with high end security features to gain the trust of general crowd”.
Nepal is a small nation but with wide diversity in culture and geography. “A small and beautiful nation nestled between two super economic hubs should be able to grasp opportunities and take a huge leap in regards to development of technology but sadly the scenario doesn’t portray the same”. We initiated a IT park which due to lack of priorities is not a success, if it would have been operational in full swing then it would be a potential hub for job opportunities this example can be seen in India where due to such IT parks we can see tremendous name of our neighboring country globally. ‘CAN Info tech’ doesn’t happen just in the capital but also has been organized in the Five Development Regions to make the technology and IT related development accessible throughout the nation. CAN has also established its offices in 54 districts so that the rural areas also can gain benefits via ICT, the government is likely responsible in developing the infrastructure in such regions for our reach.
“Numerous workshops, seminars and school oriented programs are held to spread knowledge in regards to technology. It is a moment of happiness to see technology being used in agriculture and other trading oriented services in the districts”.
ICT helps a nation develop and plays a crucial role in the GDP of a country. Technology wise we’re on par with the rest of the world. “Few years ago we were happy using 3G network but now we see the usage of 4G network rapidly “. If a nation seeks FDI then the advancement in technology insisted in the nation plays a vital role to attract such investors. Nevertheless, a proper survey is required in order to see the utilization percentile of technology in Nepal.
“We should have a digital tag line called ‘e-Nepal’ for marketing our Nation in global market, If e-Nepal is entertained, the developed Nepal is right around the corner”.

All About TRANQUILITY SPA

khem-new What is Tranquility Spa all about? Tranquility Spa established itself in the year 2008 as a part of the growing Wellness Industry and can be opted as an alternative to medicine for the general crowd. Spa has been instigated into Nepalese society for some time now and slowly has been adaptive amongst people from different walks of life. “Spa can be defined as a healing method using water, it activates all the five senses and is helpful to keep the human body and soul free from health related hazardous diseases”. Currently, we have 30 K+ members in Nepal spreading over our 13 outlets and also more than 150 staffs. We aim to provide one stop solution and hence our recent outlets are well equipped to provide our customers with head to toe service; massage, manicure, pedicure, facial, unisex salon and proudly a first spa chain in the nation that provides gym facility to its esteemed members. img_7494 Pic: A mini Gym within the Spa Do you think Spa culture is well adopted in the Nepalese society? “There is a prevailing paradigm in the society in regards to visiting a spa for massage, due to certain unethically running spa centers providing illicit activities”. However, it gives Tranquility Spa tremendous joy to announce that our Spa has high standards and our customers are happy with our provided service. The mindset of a society changes with time and in recent years, the Spa culture has been well adopted by the Nepalese society. During, festive seasons and special occasions we provide gift vouches for our guests and it’s amazing to see how people living abroad tend to purchase those vouchers for their loved ones in Nepal; this showcases how Spa culture is striving forward in comparison to how it was back in the days. What was your Mission when you initiated Tranquility Spa in Malaysia? Any future plans of opening more branches overseas? In the year 2013, Tranquility Spa opened its first international branch at Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Malaysia. In recent years, we have established two more branches in Malaysia namely at Palm Garden Hotel and another one at Hatten Hotel Melaka. It’s a proud moment for the team of Tranquility Spa to have been able to spread its services to a 5 & 4 star luxurious international hotel chains. “The mission has always been to provide the best of service and have an excellent customer feedback, no matter where we open our branches”. Our company’s goal has always been to be the best in the Wellness Industry locally and globally. We’re happy to see that our international chains have gained popularity and this helps us to stay motivated and service oriented. Yes, we do have other projects under our pipeline within Nepal and internationally, with time the locations will be revealed. img_7498 Mr. KHEM DHAMI. DIRECTOR-MALAYSIA Is there any cultural barrier that hinders people who opt to be a therapist? Nepal is a culturally rich country and people here are very religious and society oriented. There are tons of cultural hindrances people tend to face on a daily basis. Working in a spa is never seen as a proper job and the lack of knowledge in this field allows people to make assumptions. “The unlawfully sprawling massage centers and improper governance has led to growing unethical practices in the massage centers and due to such activities people tend to avoid working in spa centers”. Tranquility Spa is well aware of the current scenario in the society and hence, we aim to spread the positive aspects of visiting a Spa or working as a therapist. We have always believed in generating proper human capital and providing job placement, this way people are employed and our nation is benefited at the same time. There is a huge demand of masseuse in foreign nations and we aim to be the bridge to narrow down the numbers by generating qualified therapist. How do you train your staffs? What kind of training sessions they go through? We have a full-fledged academy for our staffs and also for those who aim to be a therapist/beautician in the near future. Tranquility International Beauty and Spa Academy or TIBSA has been educating and producing exceptional therapists and beauticians for over 7 years. There are varied courses provided for people interested in joining this Wellness Industry, ranging from diploma to crash course. TIBSA is a leading school of beauty and spa therapy looked over by qualified and experienced professionals. TIBSA is a sister organization of a well-established and the largest group of Spas in Nepal namely Tranquility Spa. There are training sessions in spa management, spa therapy and also we have regular meetings with our staffs to get their feedbacks so that we can improvise our service every other day. We as the largest group of Spas in Nepal aim to provide safe and secured work environment for our staffs. Unlike, many spas we don’t use locks in our spa rooms so that regular inspection can be done in accordance to the safety and well-being of our therapist and also clients. Self-defense is also taught to our staffs, so that in-case of unwanted circumstances they know how to tackle the situation. What is the Natural Herbs/Essential Oils Tranquility Spa use during their therapy session? Do Tranquility Spa use locally produced products or import from overseas? Tranquility Spa believes in promoting and boosting domestic products and therefore, most of all our products used during therapy session are locally grown products. “Nepal is well-known for its flora and fauna, the amount of essential herbs found in Nepal makes it easier for us to get our required products domestically”. However, there are certain guidelines that we provide to our suppliers so that the products meet our standards. Essential Oils play a vital role in Spa’s and few of those oils are hard to be produced in Nepal, therefore some of them such as Lavender, Rose Oil, Hibiscus are imported from overseas. What are the benefits of different therapy session? How long should one session last and what about interval for another therapy after the first one? There are different type of therapy session and is recommended after viewing the customers’ needs and wants. We have packages namely ayurvedic, serenity, shirodhara, aroma therapy, deep tissue therapy, spinal, Thai body work, trekkers therapy etc. to name few. Every therapy has its own benefit and is aimed for different purpose. “For example, a trekker’s therapy is intended for those people who go for a short or long trek. It’s a mixture of Thai and ayurvedic massage where the trekker is prepared for the road ahead or gets some relief from the trek they have accomplished”. One session is solely dependent on our customers need, but personally I would recommend a minimum of 60 minute therapy. An interval of 2 weeks is recommended before commencing another therapy. Every 2 weeks a proper massage, steam, sauna and Jacuzzi help people to feel good and are helpful in regards to health as well. Initial hurdles you faced during your ventures abroad. “Malaysia was our first international destination and for obvious reasons, opening up a new branch in an international location requires thorough study of the nation’s demographic, political and economic status”. It took us 6-7 months to get over the initial local formalities to apply for an international opening but at the same time the Rules and Regulations are vastly different in comparison to Nepal. Malaysia is one of the top holiday destinations amongst travelers from around the globe and being able to have our Spa established there, in a way promoted Nepal as well. Currently we have over 22 staffs in all our international outlets. “Now, we’re a proud member of Malaysian Spa Association and also the very first Spa recognized by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)”. Lastly, how have you been able to advertise your business? What do you think is the key reason behind all the success Tranquility Spa has been able to gain? “We hardly advertise our service but due to our esteemed members and their recommendations to their fellow people, it has been the main medium of marketing of our service”. Our valued 30 K + members have always been our core support in building our company’s status in the market. We do advertise our service once in a while when we seek for employees. We do have our Facebook page where we keep our clients updated with our promotional offers. “The key reason is undoubtedly staying ethical and loyal to our service oriented business”.

“Learning By Experimenting” – Ranjit Acharya

ranjit 1. Am I the best CEO……….. “I don’t consider myself a CEO; I would rather call myself a learner”. Learning attitude is inevitable in running a successful business. I have been learning to create jobs. Money has never been and should never be prioritized when you enter a learning phase. Failure should be taken into a positive aspect rather than getting deterred because there is an opportunity floating around and we should be able to grasp it. My major goal has always been about creating jobs opportunity and when the number increases, it gives me satisfaction and that is what makes me realize that I’m on the right path. Currently, Mr. Acharya provides direct job within his different ventures; numbering to around 500 employees and is constantly growing. 2. What Ranjit Acharya learned by experimenting on himself? There is a paradigm amongst general crowd that people have certain limits or boundaries that prevails them from growing big. I believe there is no limitation in capacity, and one should be able to exceed those boundaries. I consider in self-management regardless of time management; a person who knows how to manage oneself undoubtedly will succeed in whatever venture they proceed with”. He further adds – “We should be able to set a goal that amazes everyone so that they call you a crazy (पागल भयो कि के हो; giggles), a crazy idea will drive you ahead rather than being appeased towards success”. 3. How can Time and Patience be co-related in aspects of taking a Calculative Risk? Yes, it is co-related. Time and patience plays a vital role in running a successful business. There is a much needed risk analysis that should be carried out before embarking on a venture. Patience correlates with risk taking factor in business; one should be well aware of the time and risk being undertaken before venturing a new idea into the market. There is always a right time to initiate a launch but the market Needs and Demands should be well acknowledged before pursuing something new. The existing market scenario may not probably require new formations ahead of time. Mr. Acharya as a successful entrepreneur and personnel with heaps of experience states: “What would people say? (“मान्छेले के भन्ला”) is the social stigma that hinders the overall growth of an individual in our society”. One should be able to overshadow the negative critics and move ahead with a positive attitude. 1-final 4. Selling a service is thought to be ‘more specific than selling a product, is it? A product oriented business is that in which the prospective buyers can see, touch, feel and hear whereas, the service providing business is intangible. A product has predefined usage with time but a service is used throughout its given time frame and is totally based on customer’s satisfaction that gains recommendations and references for more service buyers. He further adds- “But still there are no significant differences in selling a service or a product”. 5. Is it important to talk about Failures? Any Failed Undertakings that Ranjit Acharya wants to share with the readers? “Failing means we’re experimenting”. Failure helps an individual to emerge with an experienced nature to strive further with full positivity. People become more fascinated by doing what drives them towards their goal. Consequently, progressive growth is certain. Mr. Acharya gave us an insight into few of his failed undertakings and to name a few he further describes; “The year was 1997 when I took the initiative in establishing a Placement Agency which failed horribly. In the year 1998 we introduced Point of Purchase (POP) media service in Nepal. We placed TV’s at various places within the city to run advertisements but the Nepalese market was not ready for such introduction and our idea had to come to a halt”. Both the ideas failed as they were introduced ahead of time in context to Nepal. 6. In order to implement a new idea we require assistance from a team. How do you build a perfect team? Competition is preordained in an advert market and being creative allows you to stay ahead in the game. “An idea is generated by an individual at the initial stage but with a proper team, the idea starts gaining a shape. It’s always better to compete with oneself and set a goal that you want to achieve in the long run. A person has to have belief in his idea and that’s when the team understands and supports the plot”. “Team building is all about acknowledging and respecting an individual’s role”. 7. How do you resolve conflicts among groups or team you work with? There are two things that need to be considered when we find ourselves amidst a conflict; 3 8. There seems to be a lack in potentiality and implementation of new and creative ideas. How can we change and grow the creativity within us? I believe everyone is creative. For instance, a person who thought of putting on plastic bags over his shoes while riding a bike during rain is creative. We all need to practice creativity and never give up. Limiting oneself will always obstruct the overall growth of the person, so giving up should never be the solution for creative minds. When you gain competitors in the market, that’s indicates the hype you have been able to create with your work. “A person should always plunge into improvising the existing idea to stay ahead and successful”. 9. How do you make sure that the advert and branding you put forward is felt or heard by the customers? “There are two phases we involve in while doing a campaign for a new or an existing products/services. The 1st Phase or the Pre-Testing phase is carried out to know about our targeted group, a thorough demographic approach is undertaken before introducing certain products/services. The 2nd Phase or the Impact Analysis is a survey that is undertaken after a time since the introduction of the products/services. These two phases allows us to know our customers better”. 10. How have you been able to retain your existing client’s trust towards your provided services? Retention of a client belief in any given service is decisive for the wellbeing of a company. Mr. Acharya who is renowned as one of the pioneers in the advertising industry in Nepal has a list of distinguished clients who have been seeking his service for past many years. “Transparency has led towards building the trust amongst my clients. I believe in being open regardless of finance, ideas etc. When you have nothing to hide and you don’t play dirty, the trust is definitely there”. 11. Lastly, for the readers; Suggestions to be successful in business.
